5 ways brands win (or lose) with real-time marketing

Call it the way the Oreo crumbles. Ever since the popular cookie brand hijacked the Super Bowl conversation with a timely tweet that rocketed around the internet, digital has had a serious crush on real-time marketing. (For different reasons, some have also had a serious crush on real-time bidding, but that's a different topic with a confusingly similar name

The task of creating a recognizable brand can come across to small business owners like spreading peanut butter on a giant squid. The solution for many is to simply create some boring, cliché, and effortless logo that they slap on their store front and done. That is the wrong way to do things.
You are your brand, and your logo is your signature. You need both to look good for your business to do well. So talk to some people, think hard about how you want to present yourself, and build toward that.

iBeacons, Device Targeting, and Big Data Will Play Important Roles in Hyperlocal Targeting

The big news in mobile technology this week is availability of Apple’s iOS 7 for iPhone and iPad users on Sept. 18. What marketers need to know is that Apple has a very high software upgrade rate for its mobile devices. In fact, Apple recently boasted a 93 percent adoption rate of iOS 6 for iPhone, and 83 percent for iPad. These impressive numbers blow the adoption rates for Android software updates out of the water.  If previous software update rates are any indication, marketers need to move swiftly to take advantage of new features in iOS 7, especially as they finalize campaigns for the upcoming holiday rush.

Wait, what?
Hasn’t Google been pounding the message of “high quality content is how you rank well in Google” in everybody’s heads for years? Well, sometimes dumbed down is better.

Almost two-thirds (61 percent) of survey respondents said that “click to call is most important in the purchase phase of the shopping process.” And 70 percent of respondents said they had used the “call button” in Google search results.

“100% Not Provided Is Not The End Of SEO” Insider Opinions On Google’s Move To Withhold Data

Google revealed it would be encrypting all search data, rendering website owners unable to see search term information previously offered through the “referrer” system.
While Google had encrypted the data two years ago for searches performed by users signed in to their Google account, and then earlier this year for any searches from the Chrome omnibox, the decision to withhold all data – regardless if a user is signed in or not – left many SEO insiders surprised it happened so suddenly.

All LinkedIn with Nowhere to Go

In a jobs economy that has become something of a grim joke, nothing seems quite so bleak as the digital job seeker’s all-but-obligatory LinkedIn account. 2 content marketing phrases you should never forget

Are you botching your content marketing efforts? Here are phrases from Intel you must remember when developing and executing your strategy.

"Random acts of marketing"

Content marketing can be exciting, especially when your brand puts copious resources in your hands. But beware of "random acts of marketing." Your content pieces should not be one-offs. Don't get so jazzed about creating a viral video or increasing page views that all of your content pieces become disjointed and don't relate to one another. Start with a coherent strategy, and build off your core plan when launching projects. Quality and consistency is better than a content marketing one hit wonder.

iPhone 5s Touch ID Fingerprint Technology Apparently Hacked In Just A Day [Video]

7 Ways to Generate Content Ideas People Actually Care About

One thing you can count on hearing at any conference, even remotely tied to marketing, is that content is king. And whether you think content is king, queen or court jester—and what’s up with our industry’s need for all the personification by the way—we can all agree that it has some level importance.
Identifying “Hot Topics” in Your Industry
The best tactic I’ve been using to help my clients come up with fresh content ideas on a regular basis is online conversation mining. Similar to social media monitoring and a cousin to the more notorious newsjacking, OCM as a concept is simple: find out what people are talking about and create content based on that.
